State Senator Diane Savino delivered an amazing speech on the floor of the New York State Senate a few weeks ago that I just recently got around to watching. Her characterization of the absurdity of what is actually being debated here is spot-on, and I think she hits on every major important point in this debate.

Senator Savino was amazing! She can move to California and I would be honored for her to be my Senator she would have my vote and support.

California, Washington and Oregon have domestic partnerships laws that say every law, regulation or court decision which applies to spouses in a marriage equally applies to registered domestic partnerships. These laws are legally indistinguishable from same-sex marriage. If Senator Savino was so concerned with the RIGHTS of same-sex couples, rather than the RITES of same-sex couples then, immediately upon the defeat of the marriage bill, she should have announced she was introducing a civil union bill or a comprehensive domestic partnership bill which would have passed.
